Introducing: our new look

In 2024 the community broadcasting sector clocked up an extraordinary 50 years of connecting and informing communities across Australia.

And meanwhile, in the background, the CBF quietly celebrated its 40th anniversary.  Four decades as community media’s biggest supporter – since 1984 we’ve distributed $367 million in grants!

The sector we serve has grown and evolved significantly in that time, and so have we.

It’s been nearly fifteen years since we moved from old paper application forms to online SmartyGrants forms! And it was nearly a decade ago we began the conversations that would see a refined governance structure, including a skills-based Board and the introduction of our wonderful assessor team to strengthen the robustness of our grant decisions. We are now, more than ever, match-fit to best support a thriving, impactful and resilient future for community broadcasting.

A part of this evolution is refreshing how we look so that our branding reflects our contemporary grant-making practices and our support for a dynamic and creative sector.

Why we’ve refreshed our visual identity

We want our aesthetic to better reflect the different voices, programs and stations that we continue to serve.  Our funding strengthens station capability and capacity and amplifies voices and stories that create greater connection and belonging throughout our diverse community.  And we want our organisation’s integrity, professionalism and openness coupled with the care, warmth and approachability of our wonderful team to shine through.

And with Roadmap 2033 developed, setting out the sector’s aspirations and strategic priorities to achieve even greater impact in communities in the decade ahead, we felt it was timely for our organisation to take a step up.

About our new look

We are proud to launch the new look of the Community Broadcasting Foundation.

Community is at the heart of what we do and how we help community media thrive.  In our new logo, you will find a radio wave in ‘Community’, reflecting our vision of community broadcasting at the heart of every community.

The dynamic feel of the radio wave is embraced by the crisp, confident form of our title – creating a vibrant union that captures the essence of the CBF.

Our new visual identity has taken our brand in a fresh but gentle and human direction and features supportive, subtle graphics using soft gradients and splices of colour – a visual manifestation of sound and collaboration. Varying angles and direction of the gradient together with our refreshed colour palette speak to the dissemination of information through different voices and the diversity of local stories, news and cultural content that our funding helps to produce.

The paired back aesthetic gives clarity to the text, with bold and clean typography that elevates how we influence and inform future investment and policy.

We have been fortunate to partner with Ortolan, a world-renowned branding agency based near our office who offered low bono fees as a service to a sector they love.

As community media’s biggest supporter, with our refreshed new look, we’re excited to continue helping community broadcasting to thrive into the future.
