Every August we run a series of small, interactive online skills workshops for our assessors. This year 20 new and experienced CBF assessors came together to share their knowledge and learn new skills.

Guided by our Grants Support Team Volunteer Manager, Georgie Boucher, participants looked closely at the assessment criteria and then completed several sample assessments, discussing why they scored applications the way they did and sharing their general thoughts.

Georgie loves running these workshops which allow her to work closely with our assessors providing practical advice and feedback. Importantly, the workshops are a great opportunity for assessors to learn from each other, highlighting the benefits of peer-to-peer support.

Our assessors find these workshops equally rewarding:

“I enjoyed the general banter around assessor styles and some insights from the more experienced people in the group.”

“I thought it was well run, inclusive and valuable.”

“It was extremely helpful. It clarified my direction when assessing while at the same time acknowledging that applications have to be viewed with both a macro and micro lens.”

Some will be using their skills in the coming weeks assessing applications from the second grant round that has just closed.
