Helping stations: Quick Response Grants

We know that sometimes stations need urgent support due to unexpected emergencies, such as storm damage, floods, theft, and most recently bushfires. Our Quick Response Grants are specifically designed to help stations deal with these kinds of emergencies.

In the last month, we approved two requests for urgent support.

2HAY FM – transmitter struck by lightning

2HAYare located in Hay in the Riverina region of south western NSW.  Their transmitter failed following a lightning strike in mid-January and were off air for several weeks. The equipment was unable to be insured due to its age.
The Quick Response Grant of $13,040 paid for transmission equipment, UPS, installation and transmitter repairs

2EAR FM – transmission pole destroyed by bushfire

2EAR FM, based in Moruya on the south coast of NSW, spent weeks over summer broadcasting crucial information for their local communities during the worst bushfires in living memory. Even though their transmission pole burnt down they continued to broadcasting on low power from a temporary antenna on the station’s roof.

The Quick Response Grant of $30,000 will pay for a new fireproof transmission pole, linking array and broadcast antenna and installation costs.

I wish to express on behalf of EAR Inc. Management Committee and our membership the most sincerest and deepest of gratitude for what you have all just done for us by approving and supporting our Grant Application for this great little Community Radio Station, 2EAR FM. You have all helped us immensely along the road to recovery from this most recent and devastating time in our Community and giving us much needed hope for a brighter future.
