Meet our Grant Assessor: Bill Park

August 26, 2024

Close up of man with blue eyes smiling outdoors wearing a navy jumper ‘What am I doing if I don’t at least give it a go?’ says Bill Park on becoming a CBF Grant Assessor.  It was the same thought process that led him to apply for his previous roles as RMITV General Manager and Board Director at Channel 31 Melbourne.

Growing up, Bill’s family members could tell he had a strong fascination with storytelling from an early age – it put him on the path of creating short films and web-series using video games in the early days of YouTube.  From there, Bill went on to study Screen & Media at Swinburne University.

‘A good friend of mine from uni messaged me one day in early 2018 asking if I could help run sound on a clip he was helping film for a TV show.  I had no other information about what we were doing and thought we were filming for the ABC or something’ shares Bill.  ‘I’d heard of Channel 31 but had never been properly introduced to it in the way that I was about to be’ he explains.  A few weeks later, Bill was signed up as a member of RMITV, a student-run television production house based at RMIT University in Naarm/Melbourne.  By the end of the year, he had worked on five different television programs as a Lighting Director and Associate Producer.  In 2022, Bill joined Channel 31 as a Director on the Board.

Bill Park is currently a Producer at RMITV.  He loves developing programs and initiatives designed from the ground up to give young artists the chance to learn and grow in an inclusive environment.  ‘Opportunities are incredibly limited (especially in TV), and the fact that you can just do things that you wouldn’t have access to even after years in the industry is incredibly valuable’.

With a keen interest in becoming more deeply involved in the community broadcasting sector, Bill recently signed up to become a CBF Grant Assessor.  ‘I could also see the trajectory of my career and the need to become stronger at grant writing. It was a no-brainer really to at least give it a shot’, he explains.

Thank you, Bill!   Tune into RMITV on Channel 31 Melbourne, Channel 44  Adelaide, YouTube or on  CTV Plus.
