Weedeewani Inni Language Show

Two female Indigenous Elders in studio

Traditional owner and Roebourne Elder, Tootsie Daniel was excited to be talking in her native language – Weedeewani Inni, and broadcasting to Yindjibarndi listeners.

Tootsie shared stories about growing up in the Pilbara, tales recounted of Easter eggs, visiting boxing shows, waving flags at the Queen, Slim Dusty concerts and getting into trouble from the German missionaries for talking in language at school in the 1950s.

These Yindjibarndi stories were considered so important, they were documented and recorded by The Juluwarlu Group, to preserve the stories, language and culture for future generations.

We proudly helped Ngaarda Media to bring Tootsie’s program to life by supporting her training in radio presenting. The program has been such a success, it’s now a regular feature.
