Karen is a Meriam/Wagadagam woman from the Torres Strait. She began her radio career on Thursday Island volunteering for the local community radio station in the early 1980s. She worked for the ABC between 1990 and 2007 in a number of roles including as presenter/producer of national Indigenous radio program, Speaking Out. Karen returned to her community radio roots joining the Brisbane Indigenous Media Association in 2007 as project manager for BIMA Projects and working as a casual presenter on 98.9FM. She has also been a member of both our Development & Operations Grants Advisory Committee.
