ArtSound FM, based in Canberra/Ngambri ACT, is the recipient of one of CBF’s most significant grants this year.
The station was awarded a multi-year Development & Operations grant in Round 1 2024/25 in the amount of $211,444 to support essential FM transmission and core operating costs over the next three years. This includes the replacement of ArtSound’s aging transmitter at Telstra Tower to ensure the station’s ability to continue to provide high-quality broadcasting services to its local community.
‘We are incredibly grateful to the Community Broadcasting Foundation for their timely support. This grant will enable us to enhance our transmission capabilities and ensure the ongoing operation of our station. It’s a testament to the hard work and dedication of our team of volunteers, and the loyal support of our listeners,’ shares ArtSound Vice President & Technology Manager, Chris Deacon OAM.
The new transmitter is expected to significantly improve the quality and coverage of ArtSound’s broadcast, enhancing the station’s ability to reach a wider audience with clearer, more reliable FM broadcasts.
‘ArtSound has been a cornerstone of the local arts and cultural scene, providing a platform for artists, musicians, and community voices. The improved transmitter will not only benefit our current audience but also attract new listeners who can now enjoy the enriched quality of our broadcasts,’ explains Chris. ‘The support from the CBF will allow us to continue delivering diverse and engaging content, including music, arts, and cultural programs, to our dedicated listeners.’
ArtSound promotes local arts, news, culture – covering performing and visual arts to literature, theatre, film, exhibitions and concerts. Championing the vibrant music scene in the Canberra/Ngambri region, the station predominantly focuses on classical, jazz, blues, folk and world music.
