Crane lifting an installation crew to install a new antenna

SmartFM in Swan Hill is a station run by a passionate team of volunteers who work each day to help listeners connect through music, interviews and broadcasts of local events. After lightning destroyed the community radio station’s antenna, broadcasting was brought to a standstill.

Following a storm, SmartFM’s transmission was damaged by a direct lightning strike, destroying the antenna and the capacity of SmartFM to broadcast. With the help of our emergency grant, SmartFM purchased and installed a new antenna and were able to restore the station’s 24-hour, 7-day a week broadcast. A major project, our grant helped to fund the replacement including installation by a crane and specialist crew.

Community radio helps to unite communities and thanks to the CBF, the team at SmartFM is back on-air doing what they do best, generating/producing radio for their community.
