This year’s 37th Boyup Brook Country Music (BBCM) Festival was an extravaganza and Radio MAMA – Midwest Aboriginal Media Association were there to capture all the highlights.

The BBCM Festival is one of the longest running country music festivals in Australia and Western Australia’s (WA’s) premier country music event.  The four-day festival attracts performers and audiences from across the country and around the world, and is host to the annual West Australian Country Music Awards – a Gala event celebrating the excellence and talent of WA artists.

For over a decade, Radio MAMA have been a proud major broadcaster of the BBCM Festival, as one of the only stations broadcasting the music festival to the rest of Australia through the Southern Community Media Association (SCMA), National Indigenous Radio Service (NIRS) and the Community Broadcasting Association of Australia (CBAA) via the Community Radio Network (CRN).  Covering over 25 hours of diverse musical acts, this year’s line up included Troy Cassar-Daley, Codee-Lee, Helen Townsend & The Wayward Hearts and many more.

The Radio MAMA team have fostered a special rapport over the years with local artists, management committees and businesses, enabling it to capture the heart of this annual event, through access to locals and venues within the region.  Festival coverage also included local emerging musicians at the Street Carnival, the Ute and Truck Muster and parade, and WA’s biggest Bush Poets Breakfast.

Radio MAMA’s recently appointed Station Manager Fiona Hayden had the pleasure of interviewing performers at her first BBCM Festival in 2023.  This year, Admin Assistant Tara Jones attended for the first time, assisting the team with photos, interviews and recording of content.

Based on Yamatji Country in Geraldton WA, Radio MAMA provides a voice for Aboriginal communities in the mid-west, Murchison and Gascoyne regions of WA.  The station supports Aboriginal culture, language, music and arts, with health and wellbeing at the forefront through educational messaging and local programs.

Radio MAMA were a recipient of CBF’s Round 1 Content Grant 2021/22.  Funding supported the recording and production of content from the Boyup Brook Country Music Festivals 2023 & 2024 with content distribution to CBAA, SCMA, FNMA, NIRS.
