Steve Ahern OAM
Steve joined our Board in 2016, bringing experience as an internationally recognised broadcasting and new media specialist, communications industry leader and management consultant. Steve is Managing Director of Ahern Media & Training, delivering training courses to broadcast companies around the world and providing change management consultancy to media companies restructuring for the new digital media environment..
Steve’s past board roles include Chairman of Rewind Radio, a technology start-up company in the audio industry; a founding board member and investor in Branded Podcasts and Chairman of Australia’s Open Garden Scheme (ACT). Steve has also served on the boards of various radio stations including 2SER, 2WEB and 2RRR.
Before founding Ahern Media & Training and the International Media & Broadcasting Academy (IMBA), Steve was Director of the Radio Faculty at the Australian Film Television & Radio School (AFTRS), a senior executive at the ABC and worked in International Public Relations for the UK’s Foreign and Commonwealth Office.
Steve was the founding consultant for the formation of South Africa’s national television, radio and new media training school (NEMISA), and Afghanistan’s Nai Media Institute (NMI). He worked with the South African Broadcasting Corporation to restructure the organisation for the new media environment and has developed training curricula for universities and media companies in Asia, Africa and the Middle East. Other recent projects include the business restructure of the Pajhwok news company in Afghanistan and the launch of Money FM for Singapore Press Holdings.
Steve is the author of several publications, including the text book Making Radio (Allen & Unwin) and is the proprietor of the radio industry trade publications www.AsiaRadioToday.com and www.RadioInfo.com.au (a member of the Australian Press Council).
Steve was awarded an Order of Australia Medal in 2009 for his contribution to media and training.
