Jonathan Brown (JB)
“Community radio gives unlikely people like me an opportunity.”
Community radio has been a positive influence on JB since he was a child, inspired by his grandfather who hosted a local jazz show. JB’s experience in radio started as a volunteer at Radio Adelaide. “By age 17, I was a total radio nerd. The community there hooked me more than the media itself”.
Soon after relocating to Melbourne, JB connected with youth station SYN and that’s where he found his tribe. “Community radio gave me the confidence to create, stuff up, to be supported and learn.” In time JB became the Education and Training Manager at SYN – a position he held for more than three years. JB now works at the Consumer Action Law Centre as their spokesperson, helping people to have their voice heard and respected, attributing his passion for social change and strong values to his experiences in community radio.
