Presenter Carol O’Halloran is passionate about helping senior Australians to live a healthy life at home for as long as possible. It’s the core premise of her show Over 50 – So What!  which is now into its third season.

Full of fun, fitness and inspiration for seniors Over 50 – So What!  features chats with diverse community groups, health and wellbeing experts, and a regular fitness segment hosted by Carol. We caught up with her recently to hear how it’s all going.

Over 50 – So What!  is well recognized for supporting seniors. It was just ranked 14th most popular show on C31,” says Carol.

The show was also a finalist in the ‘Best Seniors TV Show’ category of the 2021 Antenna Awards and Carol won Best Seniors TV personality in 2021.

“It is a full-time job producing, editing, researching and presenting the weekly show without funding. The CBF grant helps cover costs so the show can continue to support our Australian seniors.” says Carol.

For Carol the show had a particular importance over the extended lockdowns and COVID-19 stay at home orders, particularly for her viewers in Melbourne where O’Halloran is based.

“I was concerned about the effects of the lockdowns on seniors, particularly looking after their mental and physical health. Over 50 – So What!  includes a lot of educational material addressing physical, mental and emotional health, all couched in entertainment and inspiration.” says Carol.

“The key objective of the show is to keep our aging population living an independent, quality, healthy life in their own homes. With more than eight million Australians over 50, keeping them out of the healthcare system for as long as possible also reduces pressure on the younger generations.”

Over 50 – So What!  is aired three times a week on C31 Melbourne and Geelong, Channel 44 Adelaide and CTV+, and is also available on demand through Youtube and Facebook.
