On 26 September, twelve early-career researchers from across the country will battle it out to be crowned the FameLab Australia 2024 winner at the Western Australia Museum Boola Bardip.
FameLab is the world’s leading science communication competition, created by Cheltenham Festivals (UK). Since 2007, the competition has gone global in over 40 countries, with more than 40,000 scientists participating to date. FameLab Australia is produced and hosted by The Foundation for the WA Museum.
Representing universities and research institutions across Australia, the twelve 2024 finalists work across a wide field of science, ranging from thunderstorm asthma to agriculture to using smartwatches to predict infections. To excel in FameLab, competitors need to communicate their research in simple, everyday language that everyone can understand, and do it within three minutes. They are judged by a panel of high-profile judges on the: content, clarity, and charisma of their presentation.
The national final will be held live on stage at WA Museum Boola Bardip and livestreamed worldwide on 26 September 8.00pm AEST. The Australian winner will go on to represent Australia in the international FameLab Final, which will be held online in November 2024.
Audiences can expect a seriously entertaining night of great science communication, while learning about the latest, cutting-edge science research from around the country.
Famelab via The Foundation for the WA Museum were the recipient of CBF’s Content Grants in Round 2 2023/24 & Round 1 2024/25.
