The Federal Government is developing a Digital Inclusion Roadmap to improve digital access for Indigenous communities by 2026.

In our submission, CBF highlights the pivotal role of First Nations media in community empowerment and self-determination. The CBF endorses the Advisory Group’s key guiding principles for a roadmap, focusing on media diversity, innovation, cultural safety, and sustainable digital infrastructure funding.

The submission addresses challenges highlighted in the 2021 Hugh Watson Report, including funding constraints, limited revenue opportunities, competitive grant processes, inadequate salaries, and governance and training needs.

It provides case studies showing how CBF funding enhances the impact of First Nations media. Additionally, the CBF supports FNMA’s Calls to Action, advocating for increased operational funding, infrastructure upgrades, and a dedicated content production fund.

Through this submission, CBF reaffirms its commitment to collaborating with First Nations media and the Government to strengthen the sector and drive meaningful change for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities.
