The recent COVID-19 Crisis Grant round has clearly shown us there is a significant need for funding across the community broadcasting sector, and that the need is much greater than we are able to support with the available funding.
To fund this grant, we set up a $2.4 million COVID-19 specific crisis fund to ensure we could provide targeted support to community broadcasters during the pandemic. When we established the fund, we knew the money we had available was unlikely to be enough to meet the huge need across the community broadcasting sector, but we felt it was important to find a way to help stations offset the loss of income through sponsorships, donations and fundraising.
The first round, which opened for just over two weeks in early May, attracted 227 applications requesting more than $5.4 million.
Given there is such a huge unmet need for support, and we know community broadcasters are facing daily challenges keeping their stations on air, we have decided to run a second COVID-19 Crisis Grant round in early September. This will replace our usual Content and Development & Operations grant rounds which will open again in early 2021.
We’ll be making the application process for this second COVID-19 Crisis Grant round as simple as possible for community broadcasting organisations to access these funds.
More information about the second grant round will be available in the coming weeks on this website and in our social channels.
